Dr. Carl Schanbacher
Dr. Carl Schanbacher, a Board-certified Dermatologist and Fellowship-trained Dermatologic Surgeon, is the founder of South End Dermatology & Skin Care. It is his vision to provide advanced, comprehensive, and compassionate care in a relaxed, boutique environment. Dr. Schanbacher has expertise in general dermatology and Mohs surgery for facial skin cancer and reconstruction. To date, he has treated over 6,000 skin cancer patients. Dr. Schanbacher also specializes in all aspects of cosmetic rejuvenation and laser surgery, including botulinum toxin (Botox and Dysport), dermal fillers (Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm, and Radiesse), chemical peels, microdermabrasion, sclerotherapy, and numerous laser technologies for rejuvenation.
Prior to founding South End Dermatology & Skin Care, Dr. Carl Schanbacher served as director of Mohs and Dermatologic Surgery at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Schanbacher has authored over 20 original medical journal articles and textbook chapters, lectured nationally and internationally, and is considered an expert on quality control and pathology quality in Mohs surgery. He has also been a recipient of research funding from the National Institutes of Health. Due to his expertise, Dr. Schanbacher has had the privilege to teach medical students, physicians and fellows from Harvard, U.S. medical schools and abroad.
Dr. Schanbacher grew up in Nebraska and attended Colorado State University and the Technische Universitaet Braunschweig. He completed his medical school at the University of Nebraska and spent three years in Dermatology training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Schanbacher completed specialty training in Mohs surgery under the direction of nationally acclaimed physician Dr. Richard Bennett of the University of Southern California (USC), the University of California – Los Angeles (UCLA), and Santa Monica, California. With his training and expertise, Dr. Schanbacher can address any of your skin issues, and help you to achieve your goals of rejuvenation.
Dr. Andrew Nelson
Dr. Andrew Nelson is a Board-certified Dermatologist and Fellowship-trained Dermatologic Surgeon/Procedural Dermatologist. Dr. Nelson has expertise in general dermatology, as well as Mohs surgery for facial skin cancer and reconstruction. In addition, he also has expertise in all aspects of cosmetic rejuvenation, including botulinum toxins (Botox and Dysport), dermal fillers (Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm, and Radiesse), chemical peels, microdermabrasion, sclerotherapy, and numerous laser technologies for rejuvenation.
Due to his expertise, Dr. Nelson is an editor of an upcoming comprehensive textbook, Total Aesthetic Approach to Clinical Face and Body Rejuvenation, incorporating all of these techniques. Additionally, Dr. Nelson has authored numerous scientific medical articles and textbook chapters, covering all aspects of dermatologic care, dermatologic surgery, and cosmetic rejuvenation. He is also on faculty for the Greenway Superficial Anatomy Course in California, where he teaches other dermatologists and physicians about the techniques of dermatologic surgery and cosmetic rejuvenation.
Dr. Nelson graduated medical school from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, where he was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honor society (the highest honor for academic achievement). He then completed his dermatology residency training at Harvard Medical School, Department of Dermatology. Dr. Nelson then spent another year of specialty training studying under the guidance of world renowned laser and Mohs surgeon, Dr. Gary Lask at the University of California – Los Angeles (UCLA). With his training and experience, Dr. Nelson can address any of your skin conditions, and help you to achieve your rejuvenation goals of looking rested and refreshed.
